Big Japan: King of the Death Match Grand Prix 2024

Hideyoshi Kamatani v. Eric Dillinger in a First-Round Match

I think this is a First-Round Match.  As seen in some previous posts, I'm not up on a lot of BJW, so if I'm wrong on stuff,f, forgive me. Eric Dillinger did a Leg Drop off of an entrance to the building.  Eric Dillinger got thrown into the ropes with tubes on them.  Eric Dillinger was lying in those tube shots on Kamatani. This was a strong open that had a lot of good technical wrestling as well.

Hideyoshi Kamatani advanced via pinfall
3.25/5

Shlak v. Beastman in a First-Round Match

This was the next First-Round Match. This was reminiscent of Bruiser Brody back in the day with people scattering everywhere.  We had some brutal chair shots and Shlak used his nail. Beastman drove Shlak from the Apron to the floor onto a stack of chairs. These two were throwing tubes at each other. And we got a surprise of Beastman winning. This match was great, and it was what it should have been, and that's an ignorant hoss fight.

Beastman advanced via pinfall
3.5/5

Violento Jack v. Chuck Stein in a First-Round Match

Chuck Stein busted Violento Jack over the head with a tube. Violento Jack went through an alter of light tubes.  Chuck Stein hit Violento Jack with a barbed wire bat. Chuck Stein slammed Violento Jack onto a board with cans on them. This was an okay match that just never got fully going.

Violento Jack advanced via pinfall
2.5/5

Mickie Knuckles v. Daiju Wakamatsu in a First-Round Match

Mickie Knuckles gave Wakamatsu a Saito Suplex into a Tokyo Tower.  Wakamatsu busted a tube of Mickie Knuckles's head. Wakamatsu busted Mickie Knuckles over the head with a Tokyo Tower.  This was another banger of a match. What a year Mickie had and I finally got to see another Wakamatsu match.

Daiju Wakamatsu advanced via pinfall
3.5/5

Mad Man Pondo and Green Phantom v. So Daimonji and Yasufumi Nakanoue

We had a nontournament tag team match. Pondo staple gunned Nakanoue in the nuts. Pondo used his stop sign on Daimonji. This was okay. It was your run-of-the-mill tag match, but Pondo got to shine.

So Daimonji and Yasafumi Nakanoue won via pinfall
2/5

Akira v. Hideyoshi Kamatani in a Second-Round Match

Here we go with the 2nd round. Also, I find it distracting and cool that Kamatani had a piece of skin hanging off of him during the match. Well, there goes the loose skin; Akira carved that off with a blade, then carved Kamatani with said blade on the forehead. This was a great match with some great Death Match wrestling mixed with some good Hybrid Wrestling. If you're into Hybrid wrestling watch this.

Akira advanced via pinfall
3.75/5

Beastman v. Yasaku Ito in a Second-Round Match

These two started off throwing things at each other. There was a cool spot where Ito dove off of a stage and Beastman caught Ito and threw him over his head into the chairs in the audience. The finish where Beastman gave Ito a bonsai drop with the tubes across Ito's chest. This was a good brawl and a breakout tournament so far with Beastman getting another upset.

Beastman advanced via pinfall
2.75/5

Sagat, Jack Bennett and Kankuru Hoshino v. Masashi Takeda, Yuko Miyomoto and Isami Kodaka

We had a 6 person light tube Death Match.  Takeda stabbed Jack Bennett with scissors. Jack Bennett's wrestling ability is great here. Kodaka did a sick backflip to Jack Bennett.  For this being a filler match in the Tournament, so far this is one of the better matches on the show.

Masashi Takeda. Yuko Miyamoto and Isami Kodaka won via pinfall
3.75/5

Jacob Crane, Kazumasa Yoshida and Mari Hana v. Daichi Hashimoto, Kota Sekifuda and Yuya Aoki

We had another nontournament 6 men. This was a standard match where nothing stood out.

Daichi Hashimoto, Kota Sekifuda, and Yuya Aoki won via submission
2/5

Daiju Wakamatsu v. Beastman in a Semi-Final Match

Here we go with the Semi-Finals. We had some stiff chair shots and more brawling from Beastman. Beastman through a whole pack of light tubes at Wakamatsu. This was a cool match and Beastman showed me something in this Tournament.  I want Beastman doing Death Matches in the USA.

Daiju Wakamatsu advanced via pinfall
2.5/5

Akira v. Violento Jack in a Semi-Final Match

Violento Jack jammed a can into Akira's forehead. Violento Jack slammed Akira into a razor board. Violento Jack did a urinage onto light tubes. Akira did a package piledriver off of the Apron through a table with tubes on it. This was a great match and even though we had all the death match fuckery. These two put on a pretty hard-hitting match as well.

Akira advanced via pinfall
3/5

Jun Kasai, Takashi Sasaki and Tomoya Hirota v. Abdullah Kobayashi, Masaya Takahashi and Ryuji Ito in a Florescent Light Tube Death Match

The beginning of this match cut out, but when they came back, everyone was bleeding. Takashi Sasaki 2as kicking light tubes into people Takahashi accidentally put hot sauce into Abdullah Kobayashi's wounds. Hirota skewered Kobayashi. Ryuji Ito made a great splash on Hirota with a bundle of tubes. From what I was able to watch (thanks, Triller), This was a solid 6 man with 6 legends.

Abdullah Kobayashi, Ryuji Ito, and Masaya Takahashi won via pinfall
3.75/5

The Astronauts v. Masato Tanaka and Daisuke Seikimoto

This was a nice hard-hitting, strong-style match.

Daisuke Seikimoto and Masato Tanaka won via pinfall
3/5

Kazumi Kikuta defended the King of Freedoms Championship against Toru Suiguira

We had more tubes being broken. We had a stronger style of wrestling. Kikuta gave Suiguira a Falcon Arrow off the top rope through a pane of glass. Kikuta did a double stomp onto a Styrofoam thing with spikes on it. This was a great and hard-hitting match. Toru Suiguira is so underrated.

Toru Suiguira won the King of Freedoms Championship via pinfall
4.5/5

Akira v. Daiju Wakamatsu in the King of the Death Match Grand Prix Finals

This was for all the marbles. Akira emptied a bin of broken glass and suplexed Wakamatsu onto the broken glass.  Akira jammed a spike into Akira's back. These guys did cool, strong-style spots like suplexes and knees with light tubes. Wakamatsu drove Akira from the Apron to the first and second rows Ringside. Wakamatsu gave Akira an elbow drop from the top rope to the floor. Akira was covered by a light tube bundle and a chair. Akira gave Wakamatsu a Vertabreaker onto a chair. This match was amazing and a perfect way to end the Tournament.  What a tournament!

Akira won the King of the Death Match Grand Prix via pinfall
5/5

Overall

This was a solid show. Most of the tournament matches delivered and the other matches weren't bad either. There was no bad, and this was a lot of killer, not a lot of filler.

7/10
