GCW:Homecoming 2024 Night 1

Matthew Justice v. Zilla Fatu

This was a good way to open the show. Matthew Justice was welcomed back to the Showboat with an insane reaction and then these two went in and beat the fuck out of each other. That's what I like to see in a wrestling match.

Zilla Fatu won via pinfall
2.25/5

Sidney Akeem v. Tony Deppen

I haven't been the biggest Sidney Akeek and dismissed him as just another flippy guy, but this was a good performance here, also How is Deppen gonna use the rings and that not be the finish?

Sidney Akeem won via pinfall
2.75/5

Los Macizos v. The Kirks

We finally had some violence here. We had some stiff chair shots, a barbed wire board was used and both Kasey and Miedo Extremo fell into a barbed wire net. Matchwise this was a nice, quick little tag match and story they furthered the Macizos split with Ciclope accidentally getting pushed into the Barbed Wire door and Miedo getting accidentally shoved off the apron onto the Barbed Wire net by Ciclope. I don't wanna see Macizos break up.

The Kirks won via pinfall
2.5/5

Big Fn Joe v. John Wayne Murdoch

These two pulled out all the stops.  They threw it back to their NFI 7 match and Joe whopped on Murdoch with a tree branch. Even though JWM did shove a Tube up Joe's ass Big Fn Joe dished out the majority of the punishment here by doing the 10 Count Punch with Tubes and using said Tree Branch. I thought Joe was crazy for wrestling in tight whities but by the end of the match that's all he was wearing. This was a solid Death Match and I'm glad Joe got the win.

Big Fn Joe won via pinfall
3.25/5

Galleno Del Mal v. Masha Slamovich

This felt like a filler match to me. It was unannounced and had no story to it. The match was fine but on an already-loaded show, this was unnecessary.

Masha Slamovich won via submission
2/5
Raj Desi and the Bollywood Boyz v. Thrussy

Anyone who comes from the mainstream tries to go through Effy.  Raj Desi and the Bollywood Boyz didn't leave an impression on me in this one. Thrussy was good per usual. The match itself was decent but a little boring for my taste. It was a very WWE pace and I don't wanna see that in GCW.

Thrussy won via pinfall
2.25/5

Danhausen v. Ultramantis Black

This was a gimmick match between 2 people who do their gimmicks well. This was a very Chikara-esque match and was entertaining to watch. I had fun watching it.

Danhausen won via pinfall
2.5/5

Megan Bayne v. Vipress v. Sawyer Wreck v. Jordynne Grace

Megan Bayne threw out an open challenge and these three women answered. Megan Bayne is quickly becoming one of my favorite wrestlers in GCW. I haven't seen too much of Vipress but she was impressive here. I'm glad Sawyer Wreck is back from injury and she looked great here. And Jordynne Grace was a nice addition and surprise for this match.  This was a nice and hard-hitting 4 way and all the surprises hit.

Megan Bayne won via pinfall
3/5

Drew Parker v. Brandon Kirk

This was supposed to be Drew Parker against Nick Gage but Nick Gage couldn't wrestle so Brandon Kirk was his replacement. Drew got all his classics in like the Dart spot and letting Brandon Kirk pierce his cheek with a Dart. This match also had a lot of no-selling tubes and glass and this was short. This was a good match but very short.

Drew Parker won via pinfall
3/5

Mance Warner v. Joey Janela v. Blake Christian for the GCW Championship in a Ladder Match

This was a ladder match to determine the undisputed GCW Champion. This match had many crazy spots like Mance Warner jamming a Screwdriver into Blake Christian's leg, Joey Janela giving Blake Christian an Epbow Drop from a Ladder to the floor and Joey Janela doing a package piledriver through a stack of doors and ladders. There was also a lot of interference. Jimmy Lloyd came out to knock Joey Janela off of the ladder but Masha Slamovich came out to stop Jimmy, Matt Cardona tried to insert himself in the match but Manders put a stop to that. And JBL came out and attacked Effy. This was a great match and I didn't even mind the interference.  This is what a ladder match should be, crazy bumps and a lot of action.

Mance Warner won the Undisputed GCW Championship
4/5

Overall

I've been down on GCW lately because of them running too much and there being more wrestling-based and less Death Match based. But this show brought it back to what I like about them with a mix of good wrestling and great Death Match wrestling. Keep this up.

7/10
